Over the summer, current junior Emma Potts studied abroad on a scholarship in Seoul, South Korea for an entire month.

“I decided to study in South Korea because I had an interest in the culture when I had met my friend, who is Korean; she really wanted to show me a lot of things from her culture, like the music and the Korean dramas,” Potts said.

Although Korea has minimal English ties, she didn’t mind. “I just want people to understand that there is no place in the world that isn’t a bad viable learning experience,” she said.

“I went with the NISLY Program, which is a scholarship program sponsored by the Department of State, and basically it’s a program that allows high school students to learn a language in a foreign country for languages that are less commonly taught,” she said.

Potts stresses the importance of being open minded to other cultures around the world and hopes that people will follow in her footsteps one day.
