Appreciating the arts

Artists typically have a preferred medium that they work with; art teachers especially have strong opinions as to which medium they prefer to use. When confronted with this question, Ms. Bumber – one of Lemont High School’s art teachers – already knew her answer: ceramics.

“After taking it in college, I really think [that] I found my niche and a better way to express myself,” said Bumber. According to her, art is important because it allows students to express their creativity and teaches about human history.

Bumber said, “Art can definitely be learned and improved.” Her favorite thing about teaching art is getting to know all of the students’ personalities and how to cater to their individual learning needs.

Art is a subject that is very important to the lives of every individual involved. Having a teacher who knows this and loves his or her job is a great advantage which not every high school has.
