Democrats take control of the Senate with Georgia win

In Georgia, the Senate Runoff Election began. Both Democratic candidates defeated their Republican opponents early morning Jan. 6, 2021. At 2:10 a.m. Raphael Warnock became the first Black Democrat elected into the Senate from Georgia, beating Kelly Loeffler by 93,550 votes. Additionally, Democrat Jon Ossoff defeated Republican David Perdue by 55,232 votes. With this win, Democrats officially took control of the Senate, sparking outrage among Republicans, many blaming Donald Trump for the loss of control.
