8 p.m. Pence reopens the Senate and the votes are counted
The senate was reopened by Former Vice President Mike Pence around 8 p.m. in order to continue counting the Electoral College votes. The tallies were read by Former Vice President Mike Pence around 2:40 a.m. and the session closed at about 2:44 a.m. on Jan. 7. President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris won with 306 votes in the Electoral College (exceeding the vote count needed to secure a victory) and Trump received 232 votes.
