Does our great softball success have to do with her own coach?

“Let’s see, this is my 22nd year, and then I coached 2 years outside, so about 24 years.” Coach Traina said with a smile on her face, most likely proud of her amazing dedication. This would be my 15th year [as head coach] I believe.”

Last season, the softball team took the title for 2021 IHSA class 3A State runner up– With a huge accomplishment, making their first finals appearance in 32 years. Lemont finally broke their streak of just barely getting there.

Traina said, “I think it’s the combination of the great players that we had, their ability level, the way they worked together, the way they worked with the coach and staff, it all tied in and we finally got over that hump of getting to state.”

Our humble coach isn’t just a coach, she plays other roles in the school, such as one of the Drivers Education teachers and one physical education class.

“Softball and basketball have always been number one for me.” Traina said.

Years ago, Traina also coached basketball, but decided she’d stick to coaching softball, and helping out with some other extracurriculars.

“I love to work with kids, and see them grow and develop and change,” Traina said.
