Being open minded

October 14, 2016

What makes students happy in the classroom? Some may argue that the answer is a great teacher.

Senior Kritika Goyal, argues that a great teacher makes the classroom more enjoyable. “Teachers that take the time out of their day to make sure you understand something and makes you feel comfortable talking to them makes a good teacher,” said Goyal.

A teacher should be approachable and not closed minded when teaching.“When a teacher is open-minded or personal with you, he or she is more relatable and can connect to the current situation,” said Goyal.

Sophia Rocha, also a senior, agrees with Goyal’s statement. “ A good teacher keeps everyone on track and should try to include a fun activity to make things relatable to the lesson were doing,” said Rocha.

Rocha supports the fact that open-mindedness helps make the class understandable and relatable to all students. Teachers need to understand their students and what makes them unique to ensure their success in the classroom.

“As a student, being able to be comfortable with a teacher makes the class go by faster. If a teacher has nothing in common with any students the class will feel dragged on and repetitive,” said Rocha.

Overall, if a teacher is approachable and easy to talk to, the learning experience will most likely be beneficial and engaging throughout the period.
