Lemont shows support for Cubs’ World Series victory

On the recently historical date of Nov. 2, 2016, the Chicago Cubs won the title of World Series Champions! On the night of the nail-biting seventh game of the series, the game went into extra innings from a 6 – 6 tied game. The outcome of the rather excruciating game was a score of 8 – 7 in the tenth inning.

What made the championship so much sweeter was the fact that the last World Series title won by the Cubs was over a century ago in 1908.

To celebrate this amazing win, Lemont High School made sure to show its support loud and proud. Walking through the halls, hundreds of students showed their spirit by sporting Cubs jerseys, t-shirts, and even baseball hats.

Even the faculty and staff joined in on the fun; Mr. Michaelsen sported a Cubs jersey and made an announcement that all students were to make their own personal goal to reach, a “W,” just as the Cubs did for the season.

While the Cubs parade was on a Friday afternoon, that didn’t stop many students from showing their support for the Cubbies. In fact, many senior classmates came together to celebrate such an important occasion outside of school. Senior Julia Orozco attended the parade and said, “The amount of people there was unreal. Although we couldn’t see the buses because of the people, it was still so much fun to celebrate a huge ‘W’ in Cubs history. I’ve been a Cubs fan [for] my whole life, so the day was one to remember.”

Overall, the World Series championship not only allowed both students and faculty to show their support for Chicago, but also unified the community to enjoy a special celebration.
