The Threads, originally created by Sam and Nick Abboud, have definitely come a long way and now have stolen the hearts of many Lemont dwellers.

The Threads, who with the help of Zach Brosseau was named by picking a name out of a hat, is composed of Justin Bell, Nick Abboud, and Sam Abboud. All three guys had much to say about the past, present, and future of the band.

Sam expressed his gratitude by saying that they owed the band’s success to the people who help record and the people that come out for their shows. Justin thanked Ellie Abboud for pushing tickets.

When asked about the biggest challenges and rewards of being in a band, all three of them had something to say. Sam quickly responded with simply, “writing songs.” Nick playfully said, “dealing with Sam” was a challenge but said a reward was, “playing”. Justin finished off by saying that a challenge is “not sounding like another band” and a reward is, “people coming out.”

The boys were asked about tips they would give aspiring musicians and they simply said to practice and play shows, and staying focused above all. While the boys were on the topic of staying focused, they mentioned that new things coming up for the band would include “writing new songs” and meeting up with the new bass player, Duke Hiatt, who they met at the University of Illinois.

Additionally, Mr. Doherty, Band Director, and Ms. Cesaroni, Choir Director, commented on The Thread’s growth and commitment.

Mr. Doherty said kind things about the band, “I’ve taught them all and they’re good people.” Ms. Cesaroni’s comments followed suit, “They’re very talented. They have great professionalism, musicianship, and communication. They give off an older band aura.”

Both teachers commented on their sound. Mr. Doherty said, “I like their music, one can hear the obvious influences like Bruce Springsteen and The Killers. They have a darker, blues sound but they dig a little deeper. They are more dense in terms of sound.”

Ms. Cesaroni,  said, “They have a cool mix of rock intertwined with the 50s genre of music like Elvis Presley and  Jerry Lee Lewis. It’s a conglomeration of the past, especially with the way they dress and their hairstyles, which represent the 50s era.”

Ms. Cesaroni, who attended their concert at House of Blues in Chicago, said, “They were awesome and wonderful. I loved it. Their original pieces are very well done, very well written. They have good stage presence; they left the audience wanting more. Their energy never slowed.”

When Ms. Cesaroni was asked about the future of the band she was responsive, “They’re kind and humble and that goes a long way. If they keep it up and get their name out there, I can see an agent picking them up and recording with them. They can make it professional if they so choose it.”

The guys are truly very kind, humble and funny. When each member was asked to describe the other members, the given descriptions caused many laughs.

Nick described Sam as “the big brother”, while Justin described him as “the boss”. When it was Justin’s turn, he described Nick as “the wise guy”, something Sam agreed with. The last one described by Sam was Justin, who he referred to as “Too cool for school, literally” while Nick similarly describe him as “Mr. Cool”.

The coolest thing about having a band originate from Lemont High School is, as Mr. Doherty said, “You can one day say, I knew them then.”
