On March 15, Illinoisans join Ohioans, Missourians, Floridians, and North Carolinians in voting in each state’s primary election. Many LHS seniors have shown an interest in this election since the beginning of the school year.

The primary is crucial for all of the candidates from both parties. While Bernie Sanders was polling slightly higher than Hillary Clinton, anything can happen. Ted Cruz and Donald Trump prove to be polling neck and neck, with Marco Rubio and John Kasich falling behind in Illinois.

Many seniors had mixed reactions as to who they are voting for. Kevin Troy, Amber Miller, and Luis Cantu all agreed that Bernie is their top candidate. Matt Retzke notes that he voted for Trump when he voted early. Joe Baffoe selected John Kasich for his top pick.

As for the actual election in November, Hallie Taylor says, “If not Bernie, then definitely Hillary.”

The polling place for most LHS students is at LHS on the first floor. Students and Lemont voters sign in and are guided to a voting station.

The results will certainly be interesting in the 5 states who vote today. Senior Brenna Passarelli summed the process up by saying, “I’m just glad to vote.”
