Cut me a break!
March 30, 2016
Spring break is finally here. Students have been waiting for warmer weather, sleeping in, and, most of all, no homework. But for those of you who are not going on an exciting tropical vacation, spring break can become dull after a few days.
Many attend college visits over break at a variety of locations. This is always a great thing to do, especially if you are a junior and need to start the Common Application over the summer. Though you probably do not want to think of school at all over break, it is a great way to spend the day getting to know other people and becoming absorbed in a whole new world.
City visits are always a fun way to spend a day outside the borders of Lemont. Contrary to popular belief, public transportation provides an easy and hassle free way to get in and out of the city. Metra’s student fares are only $3 per way if you present your Student I.D.
After hopping on the train to Union Station, check out the Museum of Contemporary Art, which is free on Tuesdays for Illinois residents or the Art Institute, which is free for Illinois residents on Thursday nights from five to eight. Treat yourself at Magnolia Bakery or Sprinkles while shopping the day away on the truly Magnificent Mile.
Outside of the city, you can always find something to do for a great rate on Groupon. Right now, there are deals on a Escape Room in Wheaton – where you are locked in the room and need to solve puzzles to escape – mini golf, Indoor Skydiving in Rosemont, and much more.
If you have your heart set on not leaving your house during break, Pinterest presents a plethora of options. From things to do ranging from painting to reading to sewing, it will definitely fulfill all of your homebody needs.
Though Lemont is not necessarily the hub of activity in the suburbs, there are always things to do nearby. There are in fact activities other than binge-watching your favorite Netflix series for ten days. Try a new hobby or go somewhere new. But most importantly, relax while you can; finals week will be sooner than you think!
