Lemont’s Franciscan Village raised over $500 for the Alzheimer’s Foundation through a fundraiser held on Sept. 24. The event was full of children’s activities focusing on the day’s theme: Pixies and Pirates.

For an admission fee of $8, young girls and boys were given ‘coupon books’ which allowed them to listen to stories, earn their wings or pirate hats, make crafts, and get temporary tattoos. Props for this event were made by residents from the independent living community at Franciscan Village.

Residents also made ‘fairy nightlights’ out of jars and glitter that glow in the dark, sold for $10 as part of the fundraiser. The remaining jars are to be sold in the building’s gift shop.

Franciscan Village has been fundraising for the Alzheimer’s Foundation all month; last week, residents handmade baked goods and sold them, bringing in an additional $452. But they aren’t stopping there.

“We still have three more events,” said Corrine Pope, volunteer coordinator and member of the ‘life enrichment in independent living’ team. She explained that there are a few more events left: a baked potato sale, a white elephant event, and a 50/50 raffle.

“There was also a private donation of $500,” said Pope, raising their grand total to $1,520, calling the event a “great success.” Adult volunteers, employees, and members of the National Honor Society were at the event running the various stations and ensuring that all of the kids had a great time to benefit a great cause.
