Lemont High School’s music department invited the community to listen to a pair of concerts featuring different levels of the school’s bands and the choir.
The holiday concerts were held on Thursday, Dec. 8 and Thursday, Dec. 15. Both concerts began at 7 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center.
On Dec. 8, the Chamber Band and Choir put on a traditional concert with the smaller ensembles performing various songs.
On Dec. 15, select members of the choir sang along with members of the band for larger ensembles.
Nicole Grendzinski, a trumpet player, said, “ I [was] excited to perform at the shows this year. This [was] my last holiday band concert at LHS.” She also expressed that she loved how everyone in the band comes together each year to perform holiday favorites and classics.
“It’s a nice thing the band does for the holidays; it brings people together to share holiday classics,” said Kritika Goyal, a clarinet player.
Lemont High School’s bands directors are Matt Doherty and Dave Nommensen and Stephanie Cesaroni leads the choirs. The band and choral programs performed a range of selections for the two events.
The Dec. 8 concert included several pieces from the Chamber Band, including “Carol of the Bells” and “O Holy Night” by Valerie Shields.
The choir at both concerts performed “Carol of the Bells” arranged by Peter J. Wilhousky, “O Holy Night” by Valerie Shields, “Thirty Second Fa La La” by Donald Moore, and “Tundra” by Ola Gjeilo. “Tundra” featured soprano soloist Alexa Tulea.
The A Cappella Choir sang “Jingle Bells” by Gordon Langford and “Christmas Time is Here” by Michele Weir. The combined choirs sang “Lullay Lord Jesus (A Polish Lullaby)” by George Thalben-Ball.
Both concert performances offered holiday favorites and featured percussion, vocals, brass, and woodwinds mixed with instrument duets and solos from the choir.
“The highlight was Cadiz performed by a jazz ensemble because it was uplifting and energetic, said seniors Ryan Fase and Joe Purpura.
