Mayor John Egofske grew up as a teen always remembering being interested in federal issues such as the economy and foregin affairs. Although he is now the Lemont mayor, as a young teenager running for local office was not on his mind.

Egofske started to consider running for mayor when his friend introduced the idea to him in 2017. Before leading the town of Lemont, Egofske was a corporate CFO for a high growth national healthcare company. Which he ended up retiring from in 2016.

When Egofske was running he wanted to focus his campaign on sharing his background of his professional experience.

I was looking to give back to the community and hoping to share some of my background in economic development, finance and my perspective in executive decision making,” Said Egofske.

Egofske knew that his successful professional background would help bring business to Lemont. He described his campaign process as him sharing his vision of Lemont and sharing his background proving that he can do it.

Egofske was elected spring of 2017 and re-elected just last year, making him our town’s mayor for five years.

When entering office Egofske had a vision for Lemont. His vision included making Lemont an outdoor recreation destination. He desired to add merit to the town. He planned on doing this with stores, restaurants and what he describes as a vibrant downtown.

Egofske shared his enjoyment seeing new businesses enter lemont such as the forge as well as seeing empty buildings fill up such as Pete’s fresh market, Rosebuds and the Quarry which was once Lemont’s old bowling alley.

He shares his delight at hearing from residents from outside towns as well as other mayors sharing how popular Lemont is becoming.

The mayor shares the part of the position that he loves the most is serving the community. He also gives credit for helping him do it.

To do that most effectively, any successful organization starts with building the right staff and everyone understanding and striving to achieve the long-term vision and plan,” Egofske shared. He is also fond of working with the town board to better the community.

Egofske said, “government should be based on wanting to serve the entire community as a whole and make a positive long-term impact as best as possible.”
