Milky Ways offer a flavor out of this world

It’s the spookiest time of the year.

Attempting to please the insatiable appetite of the neighborhood trick-or-treaters never fails to ignite debates over the top-notch treats. Amid my exploration of the perfect doorstep ensemble, one candy sparked my interest, for better or for worse: the Milky Way.

The unique sweetness of this nougat and caramel-filled chocolate bar certainly sent me spiraling in nostalgia–I’ll never forget the many Halloween nights devoted to trading away my sour candy for sweeter alternatives. However, the bar was not a practical size for a single bite, thus the loose stream of caramel spilled out as I bit halfway.

Clearly, the “fun” size lacked functionality.

Still, the Milky Way satisfied my craving for milk chocolate, a universal quality of the superior Halloween candies. With nougat filling a majority of the interior, I was easily reminded of the iconic Three Musketeers bar.

Yet, the Milky Way contained undeniable flaws.

Just one bite left a rancid aftertaste, not to mention the bitterness of the nougat foundation. Although the caramel layer offered a hint of contrast, the excessively creamy texture left my taste buds overstimulated with dull uniformity. I would undoubtedly shy away from the Milky Way as a trick-or-treater.

Simply put, the Milky Way isn’t for everyone. While both the pros and cons appear valid, it’s best to give your candy selection a taste test before debuting it on Halloween night. Nobody wants to be remembered as the house who left the neighborhood trick-or-treaters disappointed.
