Payday fails to give other candies a run for their money

Paydays explode with peanuts while the salted caramel is understated.

My mom says I’m a bit old for trick-or-treating, but I still remember those days fondly. I recall hoping and praying for a kind stranger to open their door and hand me a king size Milky Way, a Three Musketeers, or a Dum-Dum flavor I’ve never tried before. But never a Payday. And there are good reasons for that.

Paydays are the peanut-covered caramel devil in disguise when it comes to candy. When I took my first bite of the fun-sized bar, I was immediately met with a salty flavor that I enjoyed. But I quickly realized that eating this bar was like opening a bag of trail mix and discovering only peanuts inside. That’s right. The bar was completely covered end to end in peanuts, which completely threw off the salt to caramel flavor ratio. As I chomped and chomped, I accepted my peanut defeat. I began to ponder the thought that if I wanted peanuts, I would just eat a bag of peanuts or choose another candy bar to indulge in.

Paydays aren’t good, but they aren’t bad either. If you don’t like extra peanuts with your peanuts, you might want to skip Paydays this Halloween. But if you consider yourself part of the peanut gallery and peanuts are totally your thing, this might be the Halloween treat for you. And if you’re allergic to peanuts, you might want to get your Epipens at the ready if you are in the situation of even coming close to this candy.
