As the 2023-24 school year comes to a close and students look forward to the long-awaited summer break, it’s important to look at what LHS has to offer for students during the upcoming summer.
Summer Homework
Although summer means no homework, many courses require students to complete summer work before they enter the fall semester. Completing the summer work is important in preparing students for future classes that they will be taking and ensure their success for the upcoming year.
English courses require students to read an assigned text and be prepared to have discussions and assignments based on the texts in the upcoming school year. English I, English II, English III and English IV do not have one specific book assigned to students taking the courses, but students are encouraged to pick a book based on the upcoming themes of the course and read it over summer break. English I Honors students have the choice to read “Take Me With You When You Go” by David Levithan and Jennifer Niven or “Turtles All The Way Down” by John Green and annotate the texts using the Cornell Notes Template. English II Honors students are expected to read and annotate a book from the AP Literature Recommended Reading, while AP Language & Composition is required to read the second chapter of “Friday Night Lights” by H.G. Bissinger and complete an essay based on the chapter. AP Literature & Composition requires students to choose a poem and complete an analysis based on the TPCASTT template.
Math courses provide math packets to further knowledge of the course in preparation for the next school year. Integrated Math I, II and III along with Integrated Math I, II and III Honors and AP Calculus BC students are not required to complete assigned packets for the upcoming school year but are highly encouraged to do so.
Honors Chemistry and AP Chemistry both have resources for summer homework, but Honors Chemistry has optional content refreshers while AP Chemistry has two required and one optional assignment that are important to complete as new content is discussed in the mandatory homework.
Lastly, AP Spanish Language has a “get to know you” assignment that is required to be completed before the beginning of the school year.
It’s critical for students to look at Lemont High School’s Summer Preparation website and look at what assignments need to be completed for the upcoming school year.
Summer Sport Camps
Along with academics, athletic summer camps are offered throughout the summer and offer students the opportunity to try a variety of sports and also keep themselves in shape during their off-season.
Lemont High School offers both youth and high school summer camps that include, but are not limited to, baseball, basketball, cheerleading, football, golf, softball, volleyball and wrestling. The sports camps span from late May to late July and provide students with workouts and coaching related to their sport.
Both youth and high school students can register for sports summer camps and get more information on Lemont High School’s Summer Camps website.
Despite the crucial importance of being aware of requirements for upcoming courses going into the fall semester and what summer camps are offered for your sport, it’s just as important to enjoy the summer break and be ready to take on the 2024-25 school year.
