The varsity girls volleyball team has had much success this season and will hopefully continue to see many more wins.
The team consists of 15 players and is coached by Chris Zogata, the current health education teacher at Lemont High School. Their season kicked off with a week-long summer camp, but officially began at the start of the school year and ends in Oct. depending on how well they do in the playoffs.
The girls dedicate their time to practicing and improving all season long.
“We go to the gym and work hard. We go through drills that work on different aspects of the game,” Zogata said.
Throughout the season the girls practice five to six days a week, play many different schools, attend matches, conference games and hope to make a run in the playoffs.
Already halfway into the season, the girls have been taught so much more than just bumping, setting and spiking. Zogata has been influential in guiding the team to success and emphasizing the importance of being a good team player.
“I try to teach the girls not only to be competitive but also discipline,” Zogata said. “I want them to be supportive, know how to take on responsibilities, be able to encourage their teammates when they make mistakes and try to build people up when their confidence is down.”
With a great coach and team, the girls are destined for success. With many wins already under their belt, they will continue to train and prepare for the rest of their season.
