Like past years, the final day of Homecoming week encourages students to dress up in blue and gold, the Lemont High School colors. However, Blue and Gold Day seems to have students divided on the novelty of it.
“[Blue and Gold Day] gives every class the chance to go all out for our school’s colors and come together at the pep assembly,” senior Allison Rihtar said.
Unlike the previous days, Blue and Gold Day happens annually during spirit week. Regardless, many people dress up considerably less for this day – perhaps due to wearing Lemont gear throughout the year.
“I like [Blue and Gold Day],” senior Molly Biscan said. “But I don’t really have an opinion on it.”
Skits were slow, with only a few appearing to be planned beforehand. In fact, no skits were performed until 7:35 a.m. – a considerably long time to be standing around. Usually, skits start right away with a time allotted of one minute, although some skits go on for longer.
The first skit performed was Minions from the Junior Class – a humorous take on the blue and gold theme. Featuring a choreographed dance and even a backflip, the skit took third place.
The Sophomore Class took second place with I want your love, a short but well-executed dance number.
The winning skit was the Senior Class’ rendition of “Good Old Days” by Macklemore and Kesha. Good Ol Days featured live vocals and earned 25 points for the Class of 2025.
But skits weren’t the only event happening on Friday! The Homecoming pep rally took place near the end of the school day and revealed which grade won Homecoming week; later, the varsity and sophomore Homecoming football games took place.
Overall, Blue and Gold Day seemed to be a success, albeit not as extraordinary as the previous dress-up days.
