Considered the most anticipated football game of the school year, the cheer team, dance team, Golden Cheer and Dance Team, band and color guard brought their all for this year’s Homecoming game halftime performances. Showcasing unique opportunities and programs at Lemont High School, halftime offers a chance to showcase school spirit.
First to perform at the varsity football game was the varsity cheer team. They performed a series of stunts and tumbling, proving why they are the 2023-24 IHSA State Champions.
“My favorite thing about the performance was the motions and the standing tuck. I just felt like it was a nice point [where] we were able to see the audience and interact…by giving facials,” varsity cheerleader Morgan Sadelski said. “None of us felt nervous in front of the crowd. We all feel very comfortable, and I feel like we had a very good representation of our skills in our performance.”
After a flawless routine, the girls showed nothing but pride for their school as they continued to cheer their team towards victory for the rest of the night.
Following the spectacular performance by the cheer team, we watched the varsity dance team perform yet another stunning routine to a mashup of popular songs that the student section sang along to like “Rich Flex” and “Rich Baby Daddy.”
Last, but not least, the highly renowned marching band performed alongside the color guard in their showcase called “Deep Freeze.” This routine featured beautiful prop icebergs that shined brightly under the stadium lights, along with dazzling costumes to make the color guard stand out on the field. The color guard even let us in on the pre-performance ritual that they do for good luck.
“Every single year we will create a handshake based off of the show…so before football games we will all go to every single member and do the handshake that we created,” Color Guard team captain Teagan Lee said. “I think [the performance] was pretty good and I’m really proud of the color guard.”
The Homecoming game is highly anticipated throughout the school, but especially builds excitement within the performers.
“My favorite part about the Homecoming performance was the amount of excitement everyone in the band had,” Drum Major Eve Cosenza said.
Just like every year, the halftime performances leave our jaws on the floor and our hopes high for the rest of these teams’ seasons. There’s no telling what’s in store for LHS this fall!
