This year’s Homecoming Court winners were announced during the Blue and Gold Day assembly on Sept. 27, highlighting pairs of students from each grade who were first nominated by teachers and then voted by their peers to win.
Freshmen, sophomores and juniors are crowned Homecoming princes and princesses while the seniors are crowned Homecoming king and queen. Winners receive crowns and sashes fit for royalty and cheers from the crowd.
This year, the freshman Homecoming Court consisted of Nicholas Talar, Dylan Jones, Evan Rediehs, Gianna Nagy, Elyse Miazga and Hanya Hindy. During the assembly, Jones and Nagy were crowned Homecoming prince and princess, proudly representing the freshman class.
From the Sophomore Class, their Homecoming Court consisted of Corey Laga, Charles Duerr, Kostadin Gjorsevski, Ella Cece, Clare Galateo and Johanna Nichols. Crowned as Homecoming prince and princess, Duerr and Nichols displayed their decorated crowns and sashes to the crowd.
The Junior Class Homecoming Court included Micheal Tilly, Robert Abdo, Matthew O’Boyle, Nora Miller, Molly O’Connor and Fiona Tkach. Taking home prince and princess titles, O’Boyle and Miller joined the rest of the classes as Homecoming Court royalty.
“I feel loved and that people like me and that’s always a good feeling,” Miller said. “It’s hard to not base your worth on other people, but it’s nice knowing that if you continue to do nice things you’ll be recognized.”
Seniors cheered as Trenton Parr, Jake Sulzberger, Nicholas Splitt, Krisha Patel, Ewelina Prediki and Maya Hollendoner were nominated for Homecoming Court. King Parr and queen Hollendoner were announced, showing off their newly acquired titles and crowns.
Being crowned as prince and princess or king and queen allows for the students to represent their class as a whole and proudly display their own school spirit.
“It feels good [to be Homecoming princess], I feel like I should set a good example and be kind to everyone, that’s something I always try to do, be kind to everyone and make everyone feel noticed and recognized. I feel like that’s something good to do during Homecoming week, to bring the grade together and create a community,” Miller said.
Following Class Color Day, where LHS was divided into four separate teams during friendly competition, Homecoming court highlights each grade coming together while also having the grade representation through the court.
