This Homecoming week, Lemont High School students took part in the gym olympics. The gym olympics is a yearly competition that gym students participate in during Homecoming spirit week in their classes.
The games are meant to keep students physically active, compete in a fun way and a way for more students to be more active in the spirit of Homecoming week.
As the Class Color Day assembly games have limited spots, students have the opportunity to compete in games during the gym olympics. The games last two days and at the end, whichever team has the most points is crowned the winner.
The featured games are eclipse volleyball, tug of war, dodgeball and an obstacle course. The winning team gets to hold and take a picture with a trophy filled with candy.
“Eclipse volleyball, I would say, everyone probably has the most fun with, but it is kind of fun to watch tug of war, especially when you have two pretty evenly matched teams,” physical education teacher Tracy Rainey said.
Not only do the students enjoy the games, but the teachers also have fun planning the Homecoming week activities.
“As a group of P.E. teachers, we wanted to do something different and special,” Rainey said.
The gym olympics has grown into something more than just a P.E. unit. Students come together during Homecoming week and look forward to doing these games.
