On Sunday, Sept. 22 the Chicago Bears lost to the Indianapolis Colts 21-16. This defeat marks the second straight loss this season for the Bears.
Despite the Bears defense only holding the Colts to 306 yards and two interceptions made by linebacker Tremane Edmunds and cornerback Jaylon Johnson.
Colts running back Johnathan Taylor would stomp all over the Bears defense. Taylor led the Colts in yards at 110, and also had two touchdowns.
Bears quarterback QB Caleb Williams completed a milestone on Sunday. Williams broke the franchise record for most yards thrown in a single game by a rookie with 363.
Williams also achieved another milestone by throwing his first career touchdown to rookie wide receiver Rome Odunze, which was also his first touchdown. However Williams’ performance wasn’t all that great, throwing two interceptions on Sunday, which marks four on the season.
The Bears failed on multiple opportunities to score: in the first quarter, Bears kicker Cairo Santos came up short on a 56-yard field goal attempt, and at the final play of the first half in the second quarter, Williams Hail Mary pass was deflected by the Colts and was caught by WR D.J Moore and was brought down just short of the goal line.
Moore was asked about the play in a postgame interview with Larry Mayer: “The Hail Mary, shoot, I was so close,” Moore said. “Got to find a way to score on that. To not come away with points in the first half was a dagger in the heart.”
Bears TE Cole Kmet explained some of his frustrations against the Colts in a postgame interview with Larry Mayer, “I feel like we ran a lot of plays today. It felt like we were out there a lot, time of possession and all that stuff. But we’ve just got to finish in the end zone and be better in that regard,” Kmet said. “That first one before the half, that’s not the identity that we want to carry. We want to be a team that you get inside the 5, you’re able to run the ball and shove it down a team’s throat and just get points that way. [I’m] disappointed in that.”
Going on to week four, the Bears will host the Los Angeles Rams, with both teams having the same record of 1-2. The Rams are coming off a win in week 3 against the 49ers, after losing two straight. The Rams are led by veteran QB and former Detroit Lion Matthew Stafford.
