“Our facilities are outdated,” co-chair of the Classroom Physical Environment Committee (CPEC) John Coneset said. “10 to 15 years from now when you come back it’s going to be a completely different place.”
Lemont High School’s facilities are in need of a major update to keep up with changes in education, which means looking towards more collaborative spaces.
The solution: take inspiration from the CITGO and other schools’ collaborative spaces and start renovations during the summer of 2025.
These changes are made possible by the most recent referendum, voted on by district 210 residents.
So, what exactly will be different about LHS when you walk into it next fall? The first change will be the addition of the CORE, which will consist of a collaborative space located in the center of each of the first three levels of the school.
“Every part of the CORE, the three levels over in the first part of the building, they’ll be something very similar to the CITGO area for all those floors,” Coneset said.
This summer, the main focus will be on the second floor’s CORE, as well as the science labs.
If you take, have taken or teach a science class at LHS, you have probably noticed that our science labs are not exactly “state of the art”.
The new referendum aims to change that. The updated labs will feature a minimalistic, professional design and they should all be completed by August 2025.
The last update that will be made over the summer is the repainting of various rooms in the school.
“Getting a professional-looking color palette throughout the school that’s going to tie everything together is going to be a big thing,” Coneset said.
Currently, there is no long-term plan for how LHS will be updated in the coming years because any changes that will be made are at the mercy of factors such as the current economy.
“It could go in stages,” Coneset said. “Things could get moved around based on need and then construction costs and things like that, not necessarily a plan of what is going to be next.”
Regardless of what the distant future brings, LHS will be newly improved going into the fall of 2025 and we are so excited to see how it turns out!
