American model Alex Consani made history by being the first transgender woman to be awarded Model of the Year. The 21-year-old model was awarded the title at the 2024 Fashion Awards in London.
Making a unique statement, the model came to the event styled in a ripped Union flag dress by designer Dilara Findikoglu.
While making fashion comments, Consani also made many inspiring statements in her acceptance speech. The model used her acceptance speech to honor black transgender women who she believes paved the way for the transgender community as a whole to be able to be in these spaces.
“They fought for the space that allowed me to flourish today,” Consani said.
Consani not only used her voice to honor other individuals, but she also spoke on the modeling industry.
“Now, more than ever, we need to have meaningful conversations about how to uplift and truly support one another in this industry, especially those who have been marginalized,” Consani said.
Throughout her career, Consani has been featured on runways with Chanel, Stella McCartney and Victoria’s Secret. Consani made her debut on the catwalk in 2021 with Tom Ford and then later that year she walked for Versace and Alexander McQueen.
Three years after her debut in October of 2024, Consani and Valentina Sampaio made history by being the first transgender models to walk the runway for the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show.
Consani is a perfect representation that models aren’t just a pretty face, they make history, allow for representation and radiate confident energy.
