The Lemont High School varsity dance team is making big waves as they hit the end of their season.
After coming off their fall season where they performed at football games and events, the girls transitioned into a great winter season.
The varsity dance team’s fall season starts in the summer with practices spent learning routines and heading to Universal Dance Association Camp and ends when football season wraps.
Their winter season starts in October when practices become all about their competition routine and perfecting it.
“This season we hope to improve our dance routines to showcase each teammate’s ability to do the best they can at each competition,” senior varsity dancer Allison Rihtar said.
Eventually, the team enters competitions that have higher stakes.
“We go to conference, then sectionals,” Rihtar said. “If we place top six at sectionals, we make it to state.”
The team competed at conference on Jan. 17 where they took first place, adding another win to their season. This was a great accomplishment for the girls as this was their first winter season with new coach Julie Rolston.
The girls worked hard at sectionals on Jan. 25 but ultimately did not advance to state. Despite their competition season coming to an end, the varsity dance team continues to perform at basketball games and practice techniques.
