On April 12, Lemont High School’s National Honor Society (NHS) partnered with the organization Feed6 to successfully execute their annual “Lemont v Hunger” event.
“To be able to work with such a great organization like Feed6 really makes the event flow smoothly,” NHS president Mitchell Sowa said. “They have a great team of people who are dedicated to help others as much as possible.”
During the event, volunteers worked together to pack meals that are donated to local food pantries. This year, meals were sent to the Greater Chicago Food Depository and Violet’s Kitchen, organizations that help people in need.
This year, “Lemont v Hunger” achieved their goal of packaging 125,000 meals.
“Our school board actually broke the record of the amount of meals packaged in a shift. I think Chris Coyne, [one of the Feed6 founders], said they packaged like 3,800 [meals] in their shift. They were really energetic and had a good time,” Sowa said.
The event ended up being majorly successful at combating hunger and will continue to in years to come. NHS hopes to increase the amount of meals they pack each year to further help the cause.
“Feed6 is very special to our NHS,” Sowa said. “Together, we truly do great things.”
