With summer approaching quickly, nobody wants to spend their summer feeling bored. It’s important to use your time off of school sensibly. So, here are just a few ways to make the most of your time off.
Go outside
As cliche as it sounds, devoting some time to getting outside can be a productive twist to your summer. Regardless if it’s a pool day at Centennial Outdoor Aquatic Center, a beach day at the Indiana Dunes or simply a walk, these are all great alternatives to rotting away on your devices.
Places to explore
If you’re in need of a few suggestions of places to check out, you’re in luck. A great opportunity for outdoor adventures resides right in downtown Lemont; The Forge. The Forge is home to a wide variety of different outdoor activities ranging from kayaking, ziplining, hiking and much more. The Waterfall Glen Forest Preserve also offers over 11 miles of trails for you to walk, run or bike. If the idea of roller coasters excites you, then taking a day dedicated to Six Flags Great America in Gurnee, Ill is definitely something for you.
City day
If Chicago is your cup of tea, then a city day is a great way to spend a weekend. Going to the Shedd Aquarium, Navy Pier, the Field Museum, Millenium park or just shopping are all considerable options in Chicago.
Stay at home day
You’re still able to make the most of your summer even from home. Finding a new show, exercising, finding a hobby or learning a new skill can make for a nice day without going anywhere. A new hobby such as baking or painting can provide a different use of your time instead of the internet. There are also many ways to work out and exercise even from home.
“I find myself enjoying working out rather than scrolling on social media because it makes me feel so much more productive,” junior Annabelle Dierking said.
No matter which category you fall under, there are many different ways to spend your summer that don’t include sitting on social media. We only get so many summers in high school, don’t waste them online. Get out there and have fun!
