Starting off senior year with a bang, the Class of 2026 came back to school with a new creative idea: “Senior Jeans.”
A couple weeks before school started, social media feeds were filled with new ways to artistically dress for the first day of senior year; one of the most popular trends was the infamous “Senior Jeans.”
This trend involves taking a plain pair of jeans and creating clever designs that show off a student’s school pride. This can be done with paint, patches, stickers or glitter.
Every year at Lemont High School, a couple of girls participate in this trend; however, this year, senior Nora Miller wanted every girl to get involved.
“One of my goals was to reach out to everyone before people formed little groups to match with on the first day of school,” Miller said. “In the past, you were always able to tell who was friends with whom, [but] I believe all the senior girls matching allowed us all to feel like each other’s friend and really represent a community.”
Not only was it a very fun way to start the year, it also brought everyone together as it was a great conversation starter between students, faculty and even with people outside of the LHS community.
“For as long as I’ve been in high school, I’ve seen some girls paint jeans. I always thought it was a cute idea to express each person’s personality… [We] liked being able to do something as a grade and having everyone feel included,” Miller said.
This year, many senior girls wore their “Senior Jeans.” The large number of girls participating even led to Student Services Chair Denis Dalton sending an email to the entire senior class detailing her appreciation for the idea.
“Whoever came up with the [“Senior Jeans”] idea, way to go… We are off to the best start that I can remember in [all] of my years at LHS,” Dalton said.
While we have just started the year, everyone is excited to see how this year’s seniors are going to make their mark on LHS history. With a great start like this, we can only imagine what is to come.
