Team Conrad or team Jeremiah? A conversation that you’ll hear in the halls of Lemont High School, on the bus or at the kitchen table. The love triangle between brothers, Conrad and Jermiah, and their childhood best friend Isabel “Belly” Conklin left fans on the edge of their seats since the end of Season 2 which came out last July.
Season 3 was released on Jul. 16th and has begun to take over social media. Whether that be TikTok, Instagram or even Facebook, Conrad vs. Jeremiah has caused major controversy on all platforms.
Social media has enhanced the debate between teams by allowing watchers to publicly share their opinions through edits, tweets and comments. While the two sides started out with a civil rivalry, this season, some fans have taken things too far.
“Based on Jeremiah’s current actions of being a winey baby, I have now transformed into a Conrad lover,” junior Lila O’Neill said.
Viewers have established extremely strong opinions towards characters, especially with the newest season. Some fans have turned their hatred of these characters into hostility towards the actors.
Fans have begun to attack actors with violence and threats due to the hatred for the characters they portray. Threats have been shared through incentive comments, posts or direct messages with actors. Social media has given haters a platform to express their loathing for the actors in cruel ways
Due to the threats of violence towards actors in “The Summer I Turned Pretty,” Prime Video released a statement to help protect the actors’ safety.
“Cousins is our safe place. Everything good, everything magical. Let’s keep the conversation kind this summer,” Prime Video said in an Instagram post.
As the final episodes of the show comes out, Prime Video hopes to see more positive social media posts and love from the fans.
