Kicking off the Homecoming spirit week, Monday was 70s/Disco Day. With the biggest bell-bottoms, longest sleeves and peace signs, students did not disappoint. While sometimes the first spirit day of the week is overlooked, students dove fully into the 70s.
Starting the morning with skits, in 5th place, was the “YMCA” from the junior class, in 4th place, was “Copa Cabana” from the senior class, in 3rd place, was “Dancing Queens” from the senior class, in 2nd place, was “21st of September” from the senior class, and in 1st place, was “Despicable Disco” from the junior class.
Some of the skits were heavily “Mamma Mia” inspired, with Dancing Queens by the seniors being reminiscent of the fictional 70’s band Donna and the Dynamos. Whereas the juniors leaned in heavily on the disco vibe with the Bee Gees’ tune “You Should Be Dancing.”
The student body’s outfits for today ranged from hippie peace and love to shiny disco balls and swirly bright colors. Notable 70s outfits and outfit pieces from the students include a disco ball, Elvis Presley, lots of bell sleeves and bottoms, the return of GoGo boots and neon colors galore. The wide variety of clothing worn made Lemont High School transform into a scene from “Dazed and Confused” or “Saturday Night Fever.”
The teachers also had some notable outfits, including the English department dressing up as The Brady Bunch.
“It was so fun to flashback to the 70s and all the outfits were so cute,” said senior Annabelle Dierking.
However, despite the annual trends of freshmen lacking in dress-up day points, this year the sophomores were behind the freshmen by 30 points.
The ending scores for dressup were as follows:
In fourth place, the sophomore class with 105 points
In third place, the freshmen class with 142 points
In second place, the junior class with 171 points
And in first place, the senior class with 195 points.
Overall, everyone did a great job showing their school spirit, and students are already looking forward to next year’s themes.
