This past Friday, LHS had its annual Homecoming football game and with the football game comes the infamous halftime performances. This year, there were performances from the marching band, varsity dance team, varsity cheer team and Golden cheer and dance.
Starting the halftime show strong, the marching band performs their 2025 marching show, “Still I Climb.” The show title being a play on the Maya Angelou poem, “Still I Rise,” the band’s marching show is a hiking-themed show, with the color guard dressed up as hikers, using ropes to climb up the mountain prop. Their show selection includes the following songs: “Mountains” by Hans Zimmer, “Haunted Objects” by John Mackey, “Rise Up” by Andra Day and “Slalom” by Carter Pann.
After the band’s full show on the field, there are many things the band felt about their performance.
“I felt that overall the band did really well, and I’m excited to see how it transfers to the field on DGS next Saturday,” said Drum Major Eve Cosenza. “I’m feeling very strongly about [the season]. We’ve been doing [well] so far, and I think we’re on an upward trend, and I hope we continue to grow.”.
“I’m feeling good about this performance [and] I’m really confident [about this season],” said Drum Major Olivia Sulkowski. “I’m looking forward to State, and getting the rep we put in our all.”
Bringing out their best dance moves, the varsity team is not here to play, but to win.
“I think that dance this season is going to be great. I believe that we’re all dedicated to and want to make it to state this year, and that is our goal,” said senior Mykala Kunickis, who’s been on the dance team for all four years. “We did really well, our spacing was off, but we got the crowd hyped.”
As the dance team continues with the season, they are motivated to make it to state.
“I believe that we all have that fight and that power in us to make it, and that with our new dances and our coaches’ critiques, we will get to where we want,” said Kunickis. “We know what we messed up with last year, and what we need to get better on, and we’re ready for it.”
Moving to the next performance, the varsity cheer team makes its appearance. The Lemont varsity cheer has won State Championships two years in a row, and never ceases to impress.
“I love getting out in front of a crowd; it definitely helps when competition season rolls around, because getting out in a crowd this early in the season, it’s amazing,” said senior Morgan Sadelski.
Last but not least was the Golden cheer and dance team. Performing at two football games and two basketball games, Golden cheer and dance made their appearance at the homecoming football game.
“I thought it was very high energy and people really enjoyed it,” said senior Madeline Kaminski. “I think everyone had a good time.”
From the audience’s perspective, there were plenty of good reviews on the halftime show.
“I really like the marching band because I felt, thematically, it was good this year, and the music was really fun,” said senior Sonia Strzalka. “The cheer team is always super impressive, and the dance team has the best songs. They were really good, and Golden cheer and dance is always a vibe.”
“[The halftime show] was fun to watch, I really liked [what] the band added, the avalanche was really cool. For cheer, they were really sticking all their landings, so I thought that was just really impressive,” said junior Ella Kincaid. “Dance is always so good, Mykala is good, I’m always watching her.”
As all the teams go on to compete and perform, we wish them the best of luck with the rest of their seasons this year.
