Homecoming is a hectic but exciting time for students at Lemont High School. There’s so much going on between spirit days, class games, charity drives, football and the Homecoming dance, making this week one that is anticipated by students year round. So this begs the question: should teachers assign less homework during homecoming week?
Many students at LHS have stated that it’s hard to focus during Homecoming and argue that this is a time to celebrate and ease up on the stressors of school.
“[Homecoming week has] just been a lot because I have to figure out [an] outfit for tomorrow while still doing my homework every night. It just takes a while to do all of those things,” sophomore Avery Siwek said.
While students believe in the importance of learning, they also recognize and advocate for the fact that this is a time to enjoy being a part of something bigger. Homecoming spirit week is a way to come together as a school community.
“[Homecoming] is a time to have fun and hang out with friends and do things you enjoy [doing],” junior Delaney McManus said.
Homecoming is meant to bring LHS students closer together and homework can feel like a barrier in doing so. Many students just hope that in the future teachers can lessen the homework and exam load during homecoming week and also attempt to incorporate fun games into their classes during this special week.
