Disney’s “Zombies” and “Descendants” franchises have turned heads over the past two years with two incredible, yet controversial films.
On July 10, “Zombies 4: Dawn of the Vampires” was released, starring Freya Skye and Malachi Barton along with the return of Meg Donelly and Milo Manheim.
On July 12of 2024, “Descendants 4: The Rise of Red” was released starring Kylie Cantrall and Malia Baker along with the return of China Anne McClain.
With their releases, these two movies reclaimed their spots on Disney’s “must watch” lists. Fans from all over the world tuned in to watch their Wonderland and Zombietown come back to life, but was it worth it?
These movies faced serious criticism from their teen audience, establishing themselves as the original fans.
Many “OG” fans were upset about a lack of the original cast in the “Descendants 4: The Rise of Red” with only McClain returning for the fourth movie.
The speculation of why many cast members have not returned to the franchise is rumored to be because of the death of Cameron Boyce in 2019.
The “Zombies 4: Dawn of the Vampires” controversy lies with the actual writing of the film. Fans believe that the fourth movie did not need additional “monsters” added to the story and that it did not follow the plot line of the previous movies.
Many even believe that these two movies should not have been a part of the original “Zombies” and “Descendants” franchises, suggesting that they could have been a separate spin off directed towards the newer generation.
The World’s Collide tour began this summer on July 17 in San Diego, California, merging both stories together. This tour has taken cast members from both franchises around the U.S., meeting over half a million fans in attendance for both the V.Ks and the zombies.
With only three shows left in the North American leg, fans have speculated the tour to announce an additional European leg to take place sometime in 2026. This of course is due to extremely high attendance at their American stops.
