From cowboys and cowgirls to surfers and lifeguards, Wild West vs. West Coast Day brought about exciting outfits, fun skits and school-wide participation.
Many students gowned themselves head to toe in western apparel, sporting cowboy hats, flannels, jeans and western boots. Other students choose to embrace their beachy-side, wearing Hawaiian shirts, sunglasses and bathing suits.
Although there was a large number of students choosing to dress in west coast clothing, there was a significant number of both students and staff who dressed more western.
“I think I saw more people dressed in west coast. It’s much easier for guys to be involved by wearing a tropical button up then it is for western,” junior Lila O’Neill said.
Not only did students dazzle with cowboy boots and leis, but teachers did, as well.
“Deguzman had the best outfit. He’s always very fun and dressed up for spirit week,” senior Bella Demaio said. “I always make sure to pop over [to his class] and see what he’s dressed as.”
Students danced and lip-synced during the Wild West vs. West Coast skits, securing a handful of points for their respective class. “Old Town Road” by the sophomores got 5th with 5 points, “California Girls” by the seniors got 4th with 10 points, “Country Girl” by the juniors got 3rd with 15 points, “Showdown” by the seniors got 2nd with 20 points and “Mash Up” by the seniors got 1st with 25 points.
There was also a significant increase in numbers of students who participated in Wild West vs. West Coast, with a total of 826 students participating.
“[Wild West vs. West Coast] was a great day and I was happy to see everyone participating,” Demaio said.
Whether students chose to dress up in west coast or western apparel, the participation and spirit was felt throughout Lemont High School and set up the start to 2025 Homecoming spirit week strong.
