To kick off Homecoming spirit week 2025, Lemont High School started off with 70s/Disco Day with the top five skits: “YMCA” by the juniors ranked fifth, seniors got fourth place with “Copa Cabana” as well as third place with “Dancing Queen” and also second place with “21st of September” and the juniors secured first with “Despicable Disco.”
“YMCA” was a large group and was quite enjoyable to watch, yet predictable. “Copa Cabana” was underwhelming. “Dancing Queens” was clearly an homage to the fictional “Mamma Mia!” band, Donna and the Dynamos, and a delight to watch for any musical theater lover. “21st of September” certainly solidified those disco vibes of the day with 70s-influenced dances. However, juniors take the cake with “Despicable Disco,” a large group with a momentous amount of energy.
Continuing with Tuesday’s West Coast vs. Wild West, sophomores took fifth with “Old Town Road,” fourth was the senior class with “California Girls,” third was “Country Girl” from the juniors, second and third were two skits from the seniors, “Showdown” and “Mashup.”
The sophomores’ placement is definitely a shock; however, their show of school spirit is definitely enjoyable. “California Girls” was characterized with colorful wigs, energetic choreography and iPhone flashes. “Country Girl” had some very honky-tonk rodeo line-dance-esque moves and made the viewer feel as if one was in Texas. “Showdown” is humorous and displays the story of a cowboy wrangling another cowboy. “Mashup” wins first by combining the day’s two themes in a west coast style dance interrupted by the “Cotton-Eye Joe.”
Generation Day had students dressing up as senior citizens, working class adults, toddlers and babies. Fifth place was taken by the sophomores with “Sophia the First,” fourth was “Boss Ladies” by the juniors, third was “Forever Young” by the seniors, second was claimed with “Revived” by the juniors and in first place was “Lullabies” by the seniors.
“Sophia the First” calls back to the Disney Jr. cartoon, with very toddler-like actions and with uniform choreography. The juniors became Abbey Lee Miller’s dance company during their skit, performing “Boss Ladies” in a lively fashion. Seniors sang the classic “Forever Young” by Rod Stewart while waving phone flashlights in the air. Juniors staged their own emergency along with a dance with “Revived” and the seniors were sure to leave us with some sweet “Lullabies” to finish out the skits.
Class Color Day divided the classes into orange for the freshmen, red for sophomores, green for juniors and black for seniors. Along with these color divisions came skits that placed juniors in fifth with “Irish Jig,” sophomores with “Red” in fourth place, “Let It Grow” by the freshmen in third, “Back In Black” by the seniors in second and “Star Wars” by the senior class in first.
The juniors came in with a large group of students to replicate the traditional Irish dance and gave it their all. Freshmen called back to Dr. Seuss’ book “The Lorax” with a dance to “Let It Grow” along with a front flip. Senior Greg Kasper performed AC/DC’s hit song “Back In Black” and the seniors won first place with a class color showdown in “Star Wars.”
“The skits showed some amazing school spirit and are always an amazing way to bring the Lemont High School community together. Whether it’s showing off talents or just having fun, skits are always an amazing part of Homecoming at LHS,” junior Victor Rafacz said.
To finish out a very lengthy Homecoming spirit week, students dressed in blue and gold. For the skits, “We Are the Champs” by the seniors got fifth, “DCC Cheer” by the juniors in fourth, “Gold Digger” by the seniors in third, “24 Carat Mashup”
by the sophomores in second and “Good Ol Days”by the seniors taking first place.
“We Are the Champs” showcased a falsified football game turned dance. The juniors organized a vibrant cheer choreography. Seniors performed a dance to Kanye West’s “Gold Digger,” winning tons of cheers. Sophomores danced to Bruno Mars’ “24K Magic.” The senior then closed it out with Macklemore’s “Good Old Days,” singing along with phone flashlights waving in the air.
