It’s no secret that Homecoming is a big deal at Lemont High School, but how does the location of the dance affect the experience? With changing themes of spirit days and the dance itself, Homecoming will never be repetitive in LHS. From the football field to the main gym, this iconic day has been anything but consistent.
This year, the dance was located in the gymnasium, but the doors were open leading to outside where students had access to Kona Ice and a taco truck, Taco Madre. The outside area was flooded with students while the gym had little to no students by the end of the night due to students attempting to escape crowds that formed early on in the night.
Many students expressed their dislike over many aspects of the indoor ambiance.
“The gym was really crowded and I couldn’t really hear anything,” said freshman Natalia Capps.
The atmosphere wasn’t the only issue. Many students had complaints about the high noise levels
inside of the gym.
“The sound was echoing off the walls, so I couldn’t really hear anything,” freshman Gavin O’Neill said.
Between the noises and crowds, some students are considering not returning to the dance next year.
“The dance was really boring and too loud inside the gym [and] I probably won’t go [to the dance] again next year,” freshman Nyra Sabharwal said.
In years past, the Homecoming dance was located on the football field. Due to the outdoor migration of Homecoming 2025, it’s pretty apparent that students prefer the original location.
“If it were to be outside, we would have more space for people and we would actually be able to hear each other,” O’Neill said.
