Nothing to do on your weekend? Living near the city can be an advantage when you don’t know what to do. These are a few things worth doing while visiting the city.

Cupcake tour – There are several places you can sign up to do this around the city. There are also other tours along these lines that you can experience having pizza or Italian food. The cupcake tour takes you around downtown to different unique bakeries to taste cupcakes.  Some bakeries are well-known, popular shops and others not as known and hidden among the many stores lining the streets, but they had one thing in common, the ability to bake a delicious cupcake. The tour I attended served German, cinnamon, and red velvet cupcakes.

Yoga bike tour – Once again, there are several places you can sign up to do this around the city. My personal experience of the tour is biking from the shop location out to Lake Shore Drive, where you bike along the lake. You may continue biking down to a point that is empty and has a wonderful view of the city. At this spot, you may set-up your yoga mat and the instructor leads you through a yoga session in front of the lake. Then, you get back on the bike and head back to the shop.

Taste of Chicago –  A popular Chicago event every year in July. Along with the cupcake tour, this event is definitely for food lovers. At the Taste of Chicago you can purchase tickets which allow you to visit, from tent to tent, different food vendors.

Blackhawks’ game – If you’re a fan of hockey, stop by the United Center to watch the Blackhawks. The Blackhawks are the winners of the 2015 Stanley Cup. Hockey season started October 7 and will go until April 9. However, the 2016 playoffs can extend all the way until June.

Top of the Willis Tower – The line to get to the top of the 1,451 foot tall skyscraper is long, but worth it. The view from the top of the building overlooks the city and Lake Michigan. There is a clear sky deck in which you can walk out onto and look down on the city.

Art institute-  The art institute holds some pieces of the world’s best-known artists such as Vincent Van Gogh, Claude Monet, Pablo Picasso and more. A few of the most notable pieces include: The Bedroom by Van Gogh, A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte by Georges Seurat, The Old Guitarist by Picasso, and Water Lilies by Claude Monet.

The Air and Water Show- This event takes place near Lake Michigan in August where you can relax while airplanes complete entertaining flips and tricks.

The Cloud Gate- This popular Chicago monument, also popularly known as the Bean, is a giant sculpture that mirrors back at you. It is shaped like a bean allowing you to walk underneath it.

Concerts and Shows- The city has multiple venues and broadway theaters. While visiting Chicago, why not see who is performing? Notable performances to look out for include: the Blue Man Group, the musical Wicked, and musical festival Lollapalooza.
