Not sitting in silence
December 14, 2015
The LHS varsity dance team had a competition at Eisenhower High School on Saturday, December 5th. The team took 2nd place out of 29 teams.
I interviewed the captains: seniors Kayla Halter, Aurora Slivinski, and junior Aidan Korte about the performance.
I asked them to describe the amount of preparation and hard work that went into the dance that led to earning second and they said: “We put in multiple hours every week during our practices at Lemont High School. On top of that we individually put in time to practice on our own. Everyone on the team works toward a common goal that motivates us to push ourselves to be the best we can be. We know there is always room for improvement as well.”
As for why the team chose “Car Radio” and “Run Boy Run”, the girls said, “We chose both ‘Car Radio’ and ‘Run Boy Run’ because of their compatibility when mixed together and their originality. We mixed the music ourselves, which makes our routine mean a lot to us. The songs complement each other and bring an intensity that makes the choreography very strong and hard hitting.”
The team also noted “The last performance in our opinion was so much better than our first. We really worked hard and there’s always room for improvement. We are all striving for the same goal (to make it to state). We can achieve that goal by performing our best each time.”
The judges score the dance by creativeness, technique, and execution. Judges may vary in their scoring. Then the total scores are added up and the teams receive a score out of 100.
The captains described their favorite thing about dance and how it’s inspirational “Dance inspires a person to be themselves and be free with their movements. Dance allows you to tell a story and be able to interpret a story or message throughout the dance. Our favorite thing about dance is knowing you killed it during a performance and having that feeling that you just accomplished something that a normal person wouldn’t do.”
You can see the ladies perform next at Andrew High School in Tinley Park.
