Moana makes waves

As of Nov. 23, 2016, Disney has produced a new movie for everyone to enjoy and compare to previously made Disney masterpieces.

This new movie, Moana, is about a teenage girl living on the coast of Hawaii. She is the daughter of the society’s leader and will become the town’s newest leader as a part of her lineage.

However, ever since she was a little girl, she has loved the ocean and the water, even though it is strictly prohibited for the people in her society to go too far into the water, including her father.

Later on, she discovers that the reason why the water is so strongly prohibited is due to the fact that her father lost a dear friend of his playing around in the ocean during a storm.

Then, her grandmother tells her to do one thing: listen to herself and explore the water and the ocean. In doing this, Moana embarks on an extraordinary journey, finding out new things about the ocean and herself. She even befriends a man named Maui who was known as the greatest person in the history of Hawaii.

Overall, the movie was great. There were entertaining songs, a good plot, and the audience fell in love with Moana and her determination. The music in the movie could have been a little easier to follow due to the fact that there were a lot of ballads that a kid wouldn’t be able to sing along to. But, other than that, the music added a really nice touch. It relayed a really great message to the entire audience about friendship, family, independence, and heroism.

It was also refreshing to see how independent Moana was as a character. She wasn’t afraid to stand up to her father when he told her to stay away from the water; she was brave enough to endure her trip through the ocean by herself (until she met Maui, of course.)

The movie was definitely a five out of five stars and is highly recommended for all ages.
