Talking with Ted Bundy

Madisyn Lambrakis and Maddy Horn

Theodore Robert Bundy was a notorious American serial killer. He kidnapped, raped, assaulted, and murdered several young women during the 1970s. He is known for getting away with multiple murders for his “good looks” and articulate language. He spent decades in denial, but finally admitted to committing over thirty homicides before his death in the Florida State Prison.

Joe Berlinger, creator of Conversations with a Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes, had an idea to expose the secret life of Bundy, and spread his side of the story. His vision was then picked up by Netflix, and has turned into the docuseries that has been viewed by millions.

Author Stephen Michaud was 31 years old when he was informed that he would be investigating and working on Bundy’s case. Michaud grabbed his tape recorder and sat down across from Bundy hoping to uncover the secret life behind one of America’s most famous serial killers.

Over the course of four episodes, running from 45 minutes to an hour, Michaud unveils the stories of Bundy’s victims, lawyers, and family. The series starts off by explaining Bundy’s life before any of his convictions, and shows how he was seen as a “normal” member of society.

Each episode explains the stories of the victims and the several cases against Bundy. Through Berlingers astonishing work, the audience is left in awe after each tape. Every episode includes video from actual events. In one of the episodes, it shows Bundy talking to interviews outside of the courthouse explaining how he is “innocent”. The most eerie part of it all, is that the world fell for Bundy’s charming attitude.

One of the most exceptional stories told in the tapes was survivor Carol DaRonch. She speaks out against her near-death experience with Bundy in the Netflix series. Bundy changed his appearance and went under disguise as a police officer, then he kidnapped DaRonch as she went to enter a local store. He then attempted to murder her, but fortunately, she was able to escape. She relives this horrifying experience as she shares her story with the world.

Overall, this docuseries provides insight on the life of Ted Bundy and brings awareness to the victims and their families.  If you’re looking for something thrilling to watch on Netflix, check out the Conversations with a Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes.
