The release of Toby Fox’s masterpiece

Natalie Barowsky, Staff Writer

The game you have all been waiting for has finally been released. “Deltarune Chapter 2”, premiered on Sept. 17, three years after the first chapter was announced. The game is a continuation of “DeltaRune Chapter 1”, designed by Toby Fox, whom you may also know as the creator of Undertale. It was also declared that “Deltarune” will have a total of seven chapters. For those unsure whether they wish to test out this game, this review should hopefully help.

“Deltarune Chapter 1” was released on Oct. 31, 2018. The game itself is a parody of Undertale. Though the plot is completely different, many of Toby Fox’s beloved characters from Undertale make an appearance in this game as well.

For that reason, I highly recommend you play Undertale before checking this game out. It is not required, but it will make your Deltarune experience more enjoyable.

Personally, I thoroughly enjoyed “Deltarune Chapter 2”. When the first chapter came out, I was unsure what to expect. I love any work done by Toby Fox and found the release of “Deltarune” to be very unexpected since no prior knowledge was given before release.

The game itself is incredibly entertaining. Every character has a lot of personality and you can very strongly identify the character development that occurred between the two chapters. Every character in the game is unique and has their own personality, making this story mode game highly enjoyable.

There are also additional characters added to chapter two who had minor parts in the first whose addition I thoroughly enjoyed and believe that chapter two would not have been the same without them.

The game play is also enduring, the game is constantly making you want more, as the story gets pieced together little by little. So far, I have no clue what will happen next and am eager to see where this story goes. (The ending has also spurred many plot theories in the community).

I also heavily enjoy Toby Fox’s sense of humor and found this chapter to be even more hilarious and ridiculous than the first.

Impossibly, I found the music to be even more incredible than the first chapter (Toby Fox has always been known for his famous music compositions).

The boss fights are challenging and the fighting sequences are uniquely set up compared to other games. (I would also like to mention that chapter 2 has a secret boss just like chapter 1 for those interested in trying to find it).

The game is also replayable. If you search hard enough the game is littered with secret areas and secret/different dialogues (as well as a secret route resulting in a total of three different endings to chapter 2).

My biggest complaint for “Deltarune Chapter 2” would be that the game is heavily dialogue based which can take a while to get through. The dialogue is well written but for those who wish to play through the game a second time it can be tedious having to go through the dialogue again. I personally enjoyed the character interactions but for people more interested in action games, this may not be the most fitting for you.

I loved every second of “DeltaRune Chapter 2” and strongly recommend it to those who already enjoyed Undertale or just want an entertaining story mode game that is different from the rest. My only recommendation is that you must play the first chapter prior to checking out the newest release.
