On November 3, the Atlanta Braves beat the Houston Astros 7-0, winning the World Series 4-2. Right fielder Jorge Soler, who the Braves traded for on July 29 right before the trade deadline ended, won the World Series MVP. Soler was traded from the Kansas City Royals, the Royals wanted to trade him due to him struggling while in the batting box. Soler batted .192 with 13 home runs in 92 games, after being traded he improved his batting average to .269 with 14 home runs.

In the regular season the Braves lost their best player: Ronald Acuna Jr. to a torn ACL injury. After this, they needed a replacement for him which led to them trading for Soler. 2020 National league MVP, Freddie Freeman ended the regular season in 10th place for batting average at .300. The Braves won their division (National League East) with a 6.5 game lead over the Philadelphia Phillies, securing the third seed in the National league with a 88-73 record.

In the Divisional round of the playoffs, the Braves matched up against the Milwaukee Brewers. The first round is a best of five game series. The Brewers took game one 1-2, after that the Braves won three in a row advancing them to the Championship series against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The Braves beat the Dodgers in the NLCS (National League Championship Series) 4-2, advancing them to the World Series against the Houston Astros.

Most fans were hoping for a 2017 rematch between the Astros and Dodgers, so the Dodgers could get revenge for the Astros World Series scandal in the former match.

In game one the Braves came out strong, scoring five runs in the first three innings. The Braves pulled out the win 6-2. Game two the Astros tied the series 1-1, in the second inning the Astros scored four runs. That led them to winning the game 2-7.

After two high scoring games, the third game became a defensive/pitching match up. The Braves shut the Astros out while scoring two runs. Winning game three 2-0, pushed their lead in the series to 2-1.

In game four, the Astros came out strong in the first inning with a Carlos Correa sacrifice run, bringing Jose Altuve home. In the fourth inning, Houston second baseman Jose Altuve hit a deep home run to center field pushing the lead to 2-0. Inning six the Braves made their first push to comeback, Austin Riley hit a single to left center scoring Eddie Rosario, bringing the score to 2-1 Astros. In the seventh inning Braves shortstop Dansby Swanson hit a home run to right field tying the game at two a piece. The next at-bat after Swanson’s home run, Jorge Soler hit a home run as well giving the Braves the lead 3-2. The Braves held this lead for the rest of the game bringing the series to 3-1, in the Braves favor.

Only six times in MLB history has a team been down 3-1 and still came back to win the World Series.

Game five: In the bottom of the first inning Austin Riley hit a grand slam for the Braves giving them a quick 4-0 lead in the game. This is only the 21st grand slam in World Series history. The Astros responded quickly, scoring two runs in the second and third innings tying the game 4-4. The game ended with the Astros winning 9-5, and the series coming to 3-2.

In game six, Jorge Soler hit a three run shot to deep left field, bringing the lead to 3-0. In the fifth inning the Braves scored three runs again with a Dansby Swanson two run home run and a Freddie Freeman RBI double. Freddie Freeman hit a home run in the seventh inning bringing the lead to 7-0. The Braves held that lead the rest of the game, and won the 2021 World Series, 4-2.

After the game, the Braves were presented with their trophy and the winner of the World Series MVP. Right fielder Jorge Soler won the award after hitting .300 in the series with three home runs and six RBI’s.
