First place senior skit, “Holy Seniors” performed on class color day adding to the seniors victories from the week.

Students always have their favorite parts of Homecoming spirit week. Maybe it’s the always intense class color day games. Or it’s giving to charity through the food pantry or spirit links.

However, most if not all students appreciate the creativity and dedication that their peers have when they create skits that correspond with the theme of the spirit day. These skits give students an opportunity to gain the coveted spirit points to win the overall week and work with friends to show off their dancing, singing and even athletic abilities.

“This is what it’s all about right here. Everyone in the field house is trying to get as many points for their grade as possible,” said senior Patrick Gardner, who participated in a skit that won second on the first day of spirit week.

These skits are a unique way for students to show school spirit and show other students how ‘all-out’ they can go when dressing up, matching the themes and dancing in skits.

“It shows school pride, school spirit and gives you something to look forward to,” said senior Courtney Schwarz.

As spirit week ended, the total number of points from skits were as follows: the freshman came in fourth place with 15 points, the sophomores came in third with 20 points, the juniors came in second with 125 points and the seniors came in first place with 200 points gained from skits.

While many of the seniors at the high school are well aware and participate as much as they can in everything that corresponds with spirit week, this year, the underclassmen made sure they would give the usual senior winners competition.

Juniors Cael Whitcurch and Lexi Stevens dressed up as Cosmo and Wanda and participated in a skit on Tuesday’s Cartoon Day, receiving fourth place.

“We wanted an iconic cartoon duo that would fit the theme. Spirit week is just so much fun and it shows how much fun that you are! For the people that dress up, we have so much fun!” said Whitchurch and Stevens.

Students had 1 minute to try and amuse both fellow students and the judges, made up of teachers, with laughs and happiness that encompass everyone during spirit week.

“I think the skits are very fun. I think it adds a nice little element to the week as a whole,” said Jon Deguzman, one of judges for Tuesday’s Cartoon Day skits.

As always, the hopes are high for next year and the future for Homecoming spirit week because everyone has expectations for the exciting week.
