Spirit week is always a hot topic of conversation within Lemont High School. Because of this, it also causes people to have many opinions about it.
Monday was Dynamic Duo Day. Originally, I wouldn’t say I liked the idea of not having a grade-specific spirit day other than Class Color Day, but this seemed like a sufficient replacement. I enjoyed that the day encouraged students to get creative with friends and made spirit week less about what the specific student was wearing.
Tuesday was Superheroes vs. Villains Day. I liked this day even more than I expected because many students took a creative spin on it. Many people dressed as more niche characters, rather than cookie-cutter characters, and allowed for a nice variety of outfits.
Wednesday was Celebrity Day. I appreciated that this day allowed everyone to participate. Most people can find a celebrity to dress as by throwing together items from their closet. There were some obvious trends like Bruno Mars and Soulja Boy, but it was hilarious to see the exaggerated outfits created by everyone.
Thursday, as always, was Class Color Day. This day saw freshmen dressed in orange, sophomores in red, juniors in green and seniors in black. This day is iconic for its traditions like tagging and the games. It always seems to get people genuinely interested in the competition.
Friday, the crown jewel of the week, was Blue and Gold Day. This spirit day exudes school spirit. It is unifying for everyone in the building. It also hosted the Homecoming game where LHS won against Thornton Fractional North High School 21–13.
