Zachary Mulvey is kicking off his first year at Lemont High School, bringing excitement, a passion for science, a love for learning and the hope to build strong connections with other teachers and students.
Although this is only his second year in the classroom, Mulvey has been teaching physics for a year. However, this year is different, as this is his first year teaching AP physics.
“Other jobs can get boring or repetitive, but with teaching, there’s always something different. You never know what to expect, so it keeps things interesting,” Mulvey said.
While Mulvey was student teaching, he did a number of things that grew his love for science and teaching.
“[The class] made magnets and electricity and made stuff spin. There were sparks and other things,” Mulvey said. “It was just a fun thing to do.”
Outside of the classroom Mulvey is involved in the LHS community.
“Right now, I’m actually assistant coach for the girls swim team,” Mulvey said.
Mr. Mulvey has hopes for LHS, including continuing to coach and build relationships with his coworkers and students.
“All the teachers are really nice, and all the students are really nice [too],” said Mulvey. “It’s been an easy transition.”
As the school year gets underway, Mulvey is focused on building connections, supporting his students and continuing to grow as both a teacher and mentor.
