Meet an English Enthusiast who’s a terrific teacher

One teacher that always includes fun within their lesson plan is the one and only Mrs. Armbrecht.

She teaches a variety of English classes, including AP Literature, ELL Tutorial, Supernatural Literature, and academic English 3. She began her teaching career in 1999 in Chicago before coming to Lemont in 2002.

Mrs. Armbrecht grew up in the Wrightwood neighborhood on the South Side with her two younger siblings: a brother and a sister. She said the city had a more neighborly feel and was a lot more diverse than Lemont.

Mrs. Armbrecht attended Queen of Peace, an all-girls Catholic high school in Burbank.

Armbrecht said that “(my) dad worked three jobs so that we didn’t have to go to CPS.”

Aside from babysitting, her first job was working at a family-owned grocery store, where she was held up several times.

She is an alumna from UIC, where she majored in English-Education. She also has a minor in World History.

For future electives, Mrs. Armbrecht would like to see a Supernatural Literature 2 class, in which the class would study and read more novels.

“I love my Supernatural class,” she said.

“I would love to have a Shakespeare elective,” she proposed as another idea of a new elective.

Mrs. Armbrecht is the sponsor for NEHS, the National English Honor Society. The NEHS recently introduced its new members for the school year.

Students and staff alike admire Mrs. Armbrecht, both because of the way she teaches and her personality.

“She was able to incorporate life stories into discussion to make them more engaging,” said senior Anne Dillenburg.

Mr. Dron, an English teacher, said that Mrs. Armbrecht is “super passionate about teaching” and that “she really care about her students.”
