Climate change affecting all

Ever wonder why it’s been about 60 degrees one day, and then 28 degrees the next? Climate change is a change in the statistical distribution of weather patterns when that change lasts for an extended period of time.

NASA’s official website says that scientists have high confidence that global temperatures will continue to rise for decades to come, largely due to greenhouse gases produced by human activities.

Temperatures the week of the 18 of Feb will remain in the 40s, but starting next week Wednesday the 28, will reach again up to 60 degrees.

Hurricane-associated storm intensity and rainfall rates are projected to increase as the climate continues to warm. For those whose relatives live on either coast, precautions should be considered.

Climate change is becoming a bigger issue each year. Not only does it affect the earth environmentally, but it also alters human health.

“Climate change is happening and we know it’s a problem. If people really understood the effects of climate change, they would be taking faster action, such as getting fuel efficient cars and eating less meat, which are both climate change gases. It’s a problem that politicians don’t take the time to learn and just talk about their opinion. Our politicians have to protect us and if they don’t educate themselves nothing is going to change” said Karen Aleman, environmental science teacher.

The U.S Global Research Program states that the influence of climate change with colder temperatures will cause increased levels of illness and death by compromising the body’s ability to regulate its temperature or by inducing direct or indirect health complications.

On the other hand, loss of internal temperature control can result in a numerous amount of illnesses, including heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and heatstroke.

In other words, climate change can impact human health in two main ways. First, by changing the harshness or occurence of health problems that are already affected by climate or weather factors; and second, by creating unknown or sudden health problems in places where they have not previously happened.

It’s important to be educated on all the ways climate change can influence your daily life. Moreso now than ever because of the increase in temperatures, and this is happening more quickly than others may think.
