After the competition, the academic challenge team and science club members took a group photo for memories.

On March 6, the academic challenge team and science club members participated in the SSC Science Competition hosted by Richards High School. The team competed in 13 events and placed second in science bowl and paper airplanes. The team also placed third in Forensics, the AP Environmental Exam, Raft Building and Anatomy and Physiology and had a fourth place finish in circuits as well.

As for placing overall, the results from the competition were not what the team had hoped for considering the success they had last year. However, the members seem to be content with it.

“I admit I do wish we won, but that’s just how stuff works sometimes, so it’s not a huge regret,” senior Nora Zhou said.

As for next year, the competition will be hosted here and the team hopes to prepare more.

“I hope there are more study groups with science club so we can be more organized [and prepared] for next year,” junior Alex Lazarowicz said.

Overall, it appears that the unity of both clubs was a success and it was a good experience for everyone that participated.

“I like how it teaches you to be adaptable and try new things… It’s the only time science club and academic challenge work together,” Zhou said. “There were at least two people in every event, so you [got to] interact with people you normally wouldn’t.”
