Halloween is right around the corner. What’s better than listing the top iconic movie masks in films? This list will contain the top five horror movie masks. These masks will be terrifying and, yes, sinister.
Number one on the list is from Texas Chainsaw Massacre directed by Tobe Hooper. This movie mask takes the number one spot because it is the original mask of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise and is the best one that Leatherface wears.
This mask takes number one because the farmer creates his own mask that is not only made of human skin, but stitched together by Leatherface, also giving off a twisted and creepy vibe throughout the movie.
If a face on another face doesn’t scare you, then what does?
Number two on the list is Michael Myers from the Halloween franchise. Directed by John Carpenter, the story tells of a young Michael Myers who murdered his older sister, Judith. He was sentenced to time in jail, but Michael escapes and returns to his quiet hometown of Haddonfield, Illinois, where he looks for his next victims.
Michael Myers wears his simple white mask everywhere. He stalks teenagers around his neighborhood. If that’s not creepy enough, the teens don’t even know his true identity behind the mask.
The pale white mask with red orange hair is emotionless throughout the movies. This mask is so famous that it’s sold in Halloween stores across America.
Another classic that ranks number three is Jason from Friday the 13th. This series revolves around Jason’s revenge on a camp. He stalks the camp counselors and follows them into the woods to lure them in.
The story behind the mask is Jason steals it from a local store. It is known for having a red arrow between the eyes. The mask is a simple hockey mask, but that’s what makes it unique. The man behind the hockey mask slays teenage counselors as his revenge. Who knew a hockey mask could be so sinister?
Next on the countdown is Jigsaw from Saw, yet another film series that highlights two men that wake up from being unconscious in a dirty bathroom. The two men realize that they’ve been trapped by a serial killer nicknamed “Jigsaw” and must complete his puzzles to live another day.
This puppet mask has red eyes with a white face and crazy black hair. This puppet has piercing eyes that stare right into your soul.
Last but not least – an oldie but a goodie – Alice, Sweet Alice. This movie was made in 1976 and is about a favorite daughter, Karen, who is brutally attacked and set on fire in a church on the day of her First Communion. Suspicion falls onto her jealous and unstable sister: Alice.
Not only does she attack her sister, but she goes on a murdering spree in her hometown. She targets anyone who gets in her way of seeking revenge against her sister and father.
Alice wears a painted face that almost resembles a porcelain doll. The mask has rosy cheeks, thin eyebrows, and big red lips.
Not only is she one of the few female murderers portrayed in a movie, but she also wears a mask to protect her identity. This doll-like mask turned into something you fear at night; you wouldn’t want that looking through your window.
These killers wear masks to hide themselves, but do they all have something in common? Do they just wear masks to hide; if so, are they hiding or running away from more than meets the eye?
