Christopher Nolan is one of the most well-known directors and has produced a few of the classics that shaped the cinematic world. That being said, there is a lot to be expected from his new adaptation of Homer’s “The Odyssey”
The ancient story of “The Odyssey” follows the king of Ithaca, Odysseus and his journey home after the Trojan War. Odysseus encounters many obstacles along the way, such as Polymetheus the cyclops, Charybdis and Scylla, the six-headed monster who famously eats six of his men.
While much of the book is focused on the fantasy elements of Odysseus’ adventures, Nolan confirms that the movie is going to take a more emotional approach to the story and focus on the mental aspects of both Odysseus, played by Matt Damon, and people in his life such as his wife, Penelope, who is played by Anne Hathaway.
What makes this film stand out from Nolan’s other famous movies is the fact that it is going to be the first of Nolan’s films to be shot only on an IMAX 70mm. Many films like “Oppenheimer” have shot certain scenes with this specific camera, but there have only been a few others that have attempted the entire film. The IMAX camera produces shots with much more depth and detail, as well as a wider image. The only downside to filming this way is the camera’s film limit, which Nolan has confirmed will make “The Odyssey” shorter than three hours.
From this new style of film to the prestigious name of Christopher Nolan, we can be sure that the epic of “The Odyssey” will live up to its legend.
